Our Story

From the old hearth to a family estate.

The owner created Villa IDOL by restoring ancestral property in Prapatnica, the village his family comes from.

The starting point

It began around a hearth.

Once, there was only an ognjena kužina here: a traditional kitchen with an open hearth. Food was prepared there, and in cold weather it was also a place to sit by the fire. It formed the modest, everyday centre of life on the family property.

The owner started with one ruined building. As he brought its walls back into use, further ideas followed: what else could be preserved, which structures could be restored and how the separate parts of the property could fit together.

How the estate developed

Each restoration brought another idea.

The work itself provided inspiration. Restoring the first building opened the way to the next, and individual ideas gradually came together as today's estate of four stone houses, a garden and a pool.

He restored the ancestral property patiently, sometimes quite literally stone by stone. Preserving what had been handed down went alongside adding something new at each stage. Villa IDOL still carries the marks of the old houses while making room for the everyday lives and gatherings of a new generation.
